Hello there!  My name is Crystal Wright, I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 8 children! I began my journey into birth work when my oldest was born.  It was a traumatic vaginal birth that sadly ended in a short NICU stay.  I knew I wanted my next birth to be different so I made different decisions.  Having my second was a much better experience!  With my third baby, I chose an out of hospital birth and loved the care I received from my midwives.  Unfortunately, when I went into labor, he wasn't tolerating the contractions so I transferred into the hospital where I very quickly had an emergency cesarean.  I was so thankful because I had a healthy baby!  It wasn't ideal, but as I learned with my first son, a vaginal birth doesn't always equal a healthy baby.  I knew with my fourth pregnancy that I certainly did NOT want another surgery so I waded through several providers before I found someone willing to support my decision to have a VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean).  It just so happened the providers were hospital midwives!  I went on to have 4 VBACs in the hospital and 1 VBAC safely at home.  It was my birth experiences that put me on the path of loving all things related to birth!  I found myself getting sucked into birth stories and chasing rabbit holes of related information.  I may or may not still do that!

In 2003 I graduated from UCO with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, but decided it was best to be a stay at home mom. I waited until my youngest was a year old to become a birth doula in 2014.  The very first birth I attended, I supported a mom having her first VBAC.  I ended up supporting her again in 2017 as she brought her second son, another VBAC, earth-side.  Within the first year of being a doula, I became a certified Hypnobabies Hyno-doula. After about 2 years of doing doula work, I decided to train though Lamaze to become a Certified Lamaze Instructor.  I've been teaching private and public classes since January of 2016. In the spring of that year, I teamed up with 2 of my favorite birth workers and formed the OKC Metro Birth Professionals

In 2017 I decided to further my knowledge and happily dove head first into the best midwife assistant training Oklahoma has to offer.  I have learned so much and not only do I get the privilege of apprenticing  under 1 midwife, but I get to learn from 4!!!!  Being a midwife assistant is such an honor and I'm absorbing so many skills!
